Bug Description
Binary package hint: update-manager
I tried to upgrade with update-manager, which told me that 8.10 was available, but when I clicked the button, it showed me the README and then just exits when I click upgrade. On the console it prints:
extracting 'intrepid.tar.gz'
authenticate 'intrepid.tar.gz' against 'intrepid.
The same happens when I launch 'update-manager --dist-upgrade' on the console.
I was able to upgrade with do-release-upgrade.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add the log files from '/var/log/ dist-upgrade/ ' to this bug report as separate attachments? But because you've upgraded after the failure there is a small chance to find what have been wrong.
Thanks in advance.
