Unable to print a 4.4MB pdf file on a HL-2030 printer with Evince

The file, containing scanned images only (xsane), doesn't print on a HL-2030 printer via Cups (I get a blank page). It prints correctly into a pdf files, and also with xpdf and the command lpr. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10. apt-cache policy evince gives:

is this an issue only with the specific file, or can you not print to this printer at all?
