Bug Description

Hi all,
I'm experiencing some troubles with my Ubuntu 8.04 installation and kernel 2.6.24-18.
It seems to have some troubles with some (and old) usb devices.
For example I have an LG Usb drive pen 2.0 512 MB that works fine under Windows Xp but not under Ubuntu.
This is the output of the dmesg command:

I looked for a while for a solution, but I haven't been able to fix the problem.
Anyone some suggestions?

Thanks,

Alessandro

Thanks for your bug report.

We might need a little more information.
Is your usb key a generic one? not a mp3 right?

Can you give us the output of the following command:

uname -a

Then plug your usb key and enter this:

lsusb

Thank you.

Yes, my usb key it's a generic pen drive, and I experienced the same problem both with my laptop and with other two desktop.
The OS is always Ubuntu 8.04.

Here the output of uname -a command:

Hi,
yes it is still an isuue. Recently I have updated to Kernel 2.6.30.5,
but the problem remains (the dmesg post is attached). If I'm not wrong I
had the same problem with kernel 2.6.24, too.
The problemdoes not depend on the hardware platform.
Maybe it is an harware problem, however, the pen drive keeps working
under windows.

Thanks,

Alessandro

Ok then, one question: is it just this specific pen drive that has the problem? in the lsusb output you attached on 2008-11-23, it seems that you had a "Belkin optical mouse w/ scrollwheel". Does this mouse (or any other usb hardware you connect) work?

Thank you

Hi,
sorry if my answer comes late. I have just read it.
Yes, I have a Belkin optical mouse w/ scrollwheel.
I tried several mouses, but none of them caused me any problem, the same
happens for other usb pen drives.
Do you think it could be an hardware related problem like an FS damage?

Thanks,

Alessandro
