Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

network-manager:
  Installed: 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu1

NetworkManager segfaults when I suspend my computer. Here is the log messages from /var/log/messages:

Nov 22 07:52:56 desktop kernel: [ 4285.290676] forcedeth 0000:00:04.0: PCI INT A disabled

Nov 22 08:50:03 desktop kernel: [ 4287.836077] Freezing user space processes ... (elapsed 0.04 seconds) done.
Nov 22 08:50:03 desktop kernel: [ 4287.876540] Freezing remaining freezable tasks ... (elapsed 0.00 seconds) done.

As described in the release notes (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/810), I have added the ath_pci module to $SUSPEND_MODULES in /etc/pm/config.d/madwifi. There were also issues with the forcedeth driver, so I also unload it at suspend.

I still see this problem routinely. Is there any way to load debugging information to print the stack trace? Or what else can I do diagnose the problem?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

There is no crash file in /var/crash when NetworkManager crashes, so I am reopening this bug. The only indications that NetworkManager has crashed are that nm-applet reports "networking is disabled" when I hover the mouse over it, and "NetworkManager is not running" when I click on nm-applet, along with the error message in /var/log/messages that I noted in my original bug report.
