Bug Description

I use Ubuntu 8.10 (Kernel 2.6.27-7-generic) on a AMD Athlon XP2600 PC with a NVIDIA Geforce4 MX4000 graphic-card and 2GB RAM. I have KDE 4.1, Gnome and XFCE installed.
I use Desktop Effects (GNOME) and I use the NVIDIA (version 96) driver.

When I start a qt3 program (lets say Amarok) AND I have the Desktop Effects ON (with NVIDIA driver ON):
I can see the program... but it can't see the menu-items when I open a menu. When I hover over those expanded menus ... I can see the items flash up for a millisecond and then they vanish again...

I can see the menu-bar and I can read the text (File | Edit | View| Help | etc.). But the pop-upped menus have NO visible fonts.

BUT the underscore character is always visible...

QT4 and GNOME programs look normal.
When I turn OFF those Desktop Effects... everything is fine.

Greetings,
Andreas

I have the same problem with Ubuntu 8.10 (2.6.27-9-generic), nvidia's driver (version 96 too) for GeForce 4 MX 440.
Only for Qt3 softwares, like Wine, Amarok...

If you try adding:
Option "RenderAccel" "False"
to your xorg.conf file it may help clear up your problem.
I have a FX5200 card and run the version 96.43.09 driver
and it cleared up the exact problem I was having.
