Bug Description

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

At least for the combination of Ubuntu 8.10 and Virtualbox-OSE 2.0.4 i can reproduce the following behavior evry time:

If under the (Ubuntu) settings for the mouse i activate "find pointer" (Show position of the mousepointer whe CTRL key is pressed), then no CTRL-<key> is handed to my Windows2000 Guest in the virtualbox.

For example: An CTRL-C arrives as a simple C, So cut and paste controlled by keyboard is effectively not available.

Update: Also can be reproduced with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and VirtualBox-OSE 3.1.6

Do you have the same problem with other Qt/KDE applications, like e.g. "Konsole"? Does Ctrl-C arrive there correctly?

I could imagine, that this is a bug with the "find pointer" feature and not virtualbox-ose by itself.

Hi Daniel,

Yes, it does. I just re-checked it in several applications including
konsole. The only app i found misbehaving was virtualbox-ose.

My intuition tells me the same, but the only programm i could
reproduce the bug in was virtualbox.

I can see the problem also on Ubuntu 8.04 with
. citrix XenApp Version 11.0 and
. VirtualBox 2.2.2

However, thanks to information here, I got a workaround: Disable the 'find pointer'-feature

Confirming by popular report - the same on Ubuntu 9.10 host.
virtualbox-ose may be different because it specifically traps Right-Ctrl as the focus-grabber key

The behaviour hasn't changed.

Ubuntu 11.04, Virtualbox 4.1.2-73507~Ubuntu~natty from PPA, Windows 7 guest. Ctrl+C in guest works if and only if showing the position of the mouse pointer is disabled.

I have this same problem with Teamviewer (Ubuntu 16.04 host, any client). I have tried selecting and de-selecting 'send remote key combinations' to no noticeable effect.

I have also found that disabling 'show location of pointer' either through gnome-tweak-tool or gconf via cli disables the ctrl key almost entirely in the host OS,
ctrl-c (copy),
ctrl-v (paste),
ctrl-a (select all)
ctrl-s (save)
shift-ctrl-s (save as)
shift-ctrl-e (export)
for example, do not work in any application at all afaik

....but oddly
shift-ctrl-up/down (switch workspace)
does work.
