I should note that I am using 8.10 and the package is up to date at version 0.7~~svn20081015t024626-0ubuntu1. Please let me know if I can provide additional information.

Have you tried the same changes to the routing table on 9.04, that would be version 0.7.1~rc4.20090316+bzr21-0ubuntu2? On my system, adding an additionnal routing entry appears to work just fine.

This is also not working for me in Karmic. Neither custom routes, nor the checkboxes in the Routes dialog, are saved or change anything in gconf.

I can also confirm this on Karmic Beta.

Anyone know the keys to add to gconf to enable the "Use this connection only for resources on its network" checkbox?

Okay so after hours of searching I have found a work around that may help some people with this issue. If you simply need to prevent vpnc from becoming your default gateway (This would be accomplished in the GUI with the "Use this connection only for resources on its network" checkbox) you can do the following:

1) launch gconf-editor
2) navigate to your vpnc connection, should be in or around {gconf}/system/networking/connections/1/ (where 1 is the number of the configured connection, you should see both a connection and a vpn folder here)
3) Make a new configuration directory under the connection, I couldn't figure out how to do this with the gui, but 'mkdir ~/.gconf/system/networking/connections/1/ipv4/' worked okay (You'll have to log out and login for it to appear in gconf-editor)
4) Use gconf-editor to create a new boolean key in your {gconf}/system/networking/connections/1/ipv4 folder called "never-default" and set it to true

Connect to the VPN as usual and it should work.

Yes there are work arounds (easiest being install vpnc), but lets keep this bug post focused on addressing the regression from Jaunty (it worked in that version).

If you say so....I had thought it was common practice for workarounds to be posted in the bug reports and don't see how it detracts from the focus on fixing the bug, but if someone in power would like to remove the offending post, please feel free :)

This will likely resolve itself after beta freeze is lifted: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/networkmanager-list/2009-October/msg00006.html

I've noticed this in network-manager-openvpn. The issue I see is I click on the "Use this connection only for resources on its network" checkbox in "Routes..." dialog, then I click apply. Next time I go into the configuration, the checkbox is unclicked again.

This should all have been working at least since Lucid, so I'll mark this Fix Released. If you are still noticing such issues, please file a new bug separately for your own case, using 'ubuntu-bug network-manager' and give as much information as possible.
