Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-mouse

I have had this happen 3 times now on Intrepid: Once under Gnome and twice more under Fluxbox. Problem never occurred under KDE4. (also occurs under XFCE)

After being AFK for a long period of time (or not, as described in comments below) the USB optical mouse is dead (no light) and does not come back to life without a reboot. The keyboard still works, however I cannot ctrl-alt-F* into a different session (as I am able to do when the mouse is working). The only solution is a system reboot.

I found what seems to be the same (or related) bug in Bug #34066. I have just implemented the workaround discussed there. (workaround did not work)

Problem occurred again. The posted workaround from the other bug did not work (unless that requires a reboot?)

After much time spent booting between Gnome, KDE4, and Fluxbox, I can now say that the mouse is dying without a long idle time. In the past week I've had it die 3 times *while* I was using it! I have still only experienced the problem on Gnome and Fluxbox, and not on KDE4 at all. I'm not sure if that's coincidental or relevant.

Also had the mouse die in the middle of the installation wizard on Xubuntu Intrepid LiveCD (64-bit) after posting that last comment.

Today had first occurrence of bug on KDE4, so at least we now know it's desktop agnostic. :-p

Is it ok to provide this from a time when the mouse is working, or do you need it when the mouse dies? Here's the working version. I have actually not had the mouse die again for quite some time.

Thanks, lspci info is static so will be the same freshly booted as after the bug happens.

I believe I am having this same problem and will attach my files as well for comparison, I can note that this problem has also occurs for me while running OpenSuse, and seems to occur mostly in relation Logitech mice since this seems to be related if not the same to a bunch of usb mice not responding

Logitech Marble Mouse USB
attached via USB

I think its worth mentioning that for me the USB system stops responding to plugging in anything after the usb mouse stops responding

Hi i just built an ASUS t3 T3-M3N8200 barebone with amd phenom 9950 quad core and 8gig of ram.

I have a logitech Ultra-X desktop keyboard and mouse which both work off the same usb receive and are both wireless.

i can use the computer fine for 15 mins or even 3 hours before i get a problem but then randomly the mouse will freeze up. Yet the keyboard still works fine.

I don't know if this is the same bug or not but can someone please help fix this.

Only way to get my mouse back is to reboot each time it happens...

I can also add as the previous user, all usb functions go hit and miss after this has happened. So external usb hard drives or whatever are then affected.

Cheers.
