Bug Description

ii liferea 1.4.18-0ubuntu2 feed aggregator for GNOME
Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

I am using Kubuntu 8.10 with the latest updates, but this bug has been following me since hardy at least. The problem is that after you see any embedded flash on a news item, you aren't able to play podcasts anymore.

Steps to reproduce bug:
1 - Open liferea. Choose a podcast with mp3 stream, I like this one: http://skeptoid.com/podcast.xml and this one: http://mslaw.libsyn.com/rss
2 - You see it correctly, as in my screenshot 1. You are also able to play it correctly.
3 - Open any other news item which has an embedded flash player - from e.g. youtube. Cute overload has some new items like that: http://mfrost.typepad.com/cute_overload/rss.xml (e.g. "A Born Bjorn Borg", http://mfrost.typepad.com/cute_overload/2008/11/a-borg-bjorn-bo.html). Watch the video, or at least the first seconds.
4 - Return to the first new item, the podcast one. You'll see that the player frame is now all white, with no controls, as in my screenshot 2.

We may have to dig deeper into the Kubuntu element if this is still a problem for you as on 8.10 Ubuntu with Liferea 1.4.18 I can't reproduce the bug, even using your feeds.

That's strange. As of today, with all the latest packages, the problem continues to happen.

How can I dig deeper? Which debug procedures should I use?

Hi, is this still an issue for you? Can you please try with Jaunty?
Also, which version of the flashplugin do you have? Are you on 32 or 64 bit?
Thank you

Yes, it's still an issue for me. I have a 64-bit machine (two Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7300 @ 2.00GHz) but I use kubuntu 32-bit for compatibility with some proprietary programs of my job.

My flash plugin is the following:
ii adobe-flashplugin 10.0.22.87-2intrepid1 Adobe Flash Player plugin version 10

I'll try with Jaunty as soon as it is officially released. :) This is my production machine, so I have to take some care with updates.

ok, no worries, jaunty will be out next week.
in general however you can also test stuff by booting into a livecd (or even better, a liveusb)...
leaving this as incomplete until you can upgrade to jaunty and let us know
thank you, and good luck

Well, I just upgraded to Jaunty RC, and guess what! Now (after I check the option allowing flash on the feeds, it seems either it didn't exist before or the upgrade unset it) it seems to be working! I open up skeptoid podcast and play it - it works. I go to an youtube video and get back to it - it works again.

But please let me a few more days to test this thoroughly. Thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately, the bug keeps appearing. I just went through some flash movies in liferea and the podcast controls are all blank again.

My current version of the flash plugin:

ii adobe-flashplugin 10.0.22.87-2jaunty1 Adobe Flash Player plugin version 10

I have the same problem with a 64 bit Ubunto 9.04, adobe flash player 10.

The flash disappear randomly in the web pages, for instance when I try to see this web page: http://www.ustream.tv.

The funny thing is that if I enter to www.youtube.com the flash player is running, then if I go to ustream.tv it disappear and then if I go back to Youtube is gone also...

Thanks!

I forgot this: the only way -then- to have the player working is to restart the browser (is the same with Firefox or Opera).
