Bug Description

I am using ubuntu 8.10. Kernel 2.6.27-7-generic. I used the standard usb-stick install, installed first to the usb stick, using ubuntu live cd, then installed to pc using live usb.

The internal SD reader does not read any sd cards, sdhc or sd.

********************************************************************************
The sd card reader has not worked from fresh install and I have found no work around.

One last thing, if I reboot with the sd card in the reader, the fstab reads the card, but if I try to mount the card using mount /dev/sdb1,

It returns

mount: special device /dev/sdb1 does not exist

Hi,
I have a few questions:
Is the card-reader activated in BIOS?
When you boot from a live-USB, does ubuntu mount sd-cards?
Does gparted see your cards?
Do the SD-cards work with other PCs?

Yes the card is activated in bios. I can boot from sd reader using live sd card.

When you boot from a live-USB, does ubuntu mount sd-cards?
No, it does not mount the card. But the drive does appear as an usb drive, but when I click I get an,
System will also hang if any card is in the reader at boot.

Unable to scan USB drive for media changes.
Can not invoke CheckForMedia on HAL:
org.freeedesktop.dbus.error.noreply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

Does gparted see your cards?
No, gparted does not see the card. Gparted locks up when the card is present and does not go until the cards is removed.

Do the SD-cards work with other PCs?
Yes, they work with suse, ubuntu, windows. The sd card reader works with the live usb.

I have reinstalled ubuntu 4 times from 4 different usb drives, using the usb creator on the live image, same result, everything can be gotten to work except the internal sd reader. I have used 6 different cards, 1 micro, 1 512mb, 2 1gb, 1 2gb, 1 4 gb.

I have installed a ubuntu image onto the 4 gb card and booted from that card.

I do not have any problems with my 701, so maybe yours could be broken?

both 7.04 and 8.04 work fine.

But if it was a broken reader, why can i boot from the card and run the live image on the card.

Ok to update this bug.

I have reinstalled Xubuntu and Ubuntu 8.04, downloaded today, both work perfectly regarding the card reader. Both in live mode and installed to the ssd.

I then installed using both unetbootin and the usb creator ubuntu and xubuntu 8.10, the card reader hangs and does not mount.
In both live mode and ssd.

This "bug" can be closed and possibly deleted. The problem was with the os installation option in bios. I reinstalled the os and then turned the option to finished before updating. If I turn the option to finish after updating, something does not get changed right, and I had to turn it to start, reboot, and then to finish, restart.
