Bug Description
Binary package hint: gthumb
I've seen that in the latest release of Ubuntu, Intrepid Ibex, not the latest gthumb version (from the GNOME trunk) is included but only 2.10.10.
The latest version from the trunk contains some new functionality, especially the importing of photos based upon its creation time. This allows photos to be imported into separate sub-folders if they are taken on a different day or month.
I've tried to build the latest version by hand to test it, but I get into a 'libtool' mess.

A Ubuntu release will usually ship with what was the latest stable upstream release at the time of the given Ubuntu release's Feature Freeze. See https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/FeatureFree ze
Trunk versions (= under development) are rarely considered for inclusion in Ubuntu.
If Gnome releases a new version of gthumb before the feature freeze of Ubuntu 9.04, you'll get it in 9.04. Also, since Gnome has a standing Feature Freeze Exception, the new version may slip into Ubuntu after the normal feature freeze. In some cases a version from the newest Ubuntu release (or the one under development) can be backported to a previous Ubuntu release. See https:/ /help.ubuntu. com/community/ UbuntuBackports
