Bug Description

Using Intrepid, my tray area applet misbehaves.

When I start banshee, it looks like the screenshot attached. Similar problems arise when update manager places icons in the tray area - in both cases a huge magnification of the icon happens, no other applets are shown anymore. The applets are accessible via right clicking, though.

Description: A MacOS X like panel for GNOME
The avant-window-navigator is a MacOS X like panel for the GNOME Desktop
written in C. In addition to launchers that can be dragged onto the bar,
it features a taskbar that behaves similarly to the Mac OSX dock. The window
navigator uses the composite extension for transparency and other effects.

Moving to awn-extras.

Per the instructions on the bug reporting page, this should have been filed in the Awn Extras project, because it is an applet-specific problem.

The vague reason for the error is that the Icon size can be set by the program calling it, and Notification Area doesnt argue over size, it just accepts them. Have you tried using PyNot applet instead? The default option is to force all Icons to 24x24 size, but can be changed to any size you want.

I have this same problem with the update manager - the tray becomes huge as in your screenshot with the top of a giant update manager icon visible.

Interestingly, there's no problem with Amarok, so if you're finding the Banshee problem irritating you could swap to Amarok.

Interestingly, it appears it's a problem with the Gnome notification area, rather than awn specifically:
