Bug Description
Binary package hint: network-manager
Hi,
I use kubuntu 8.10. My network-manager has version 0.7~~svn2008101
Two days ago my network-manager worked fine without any problems but yesterday during my work on laptop network-manager stopped working. And it is not able to set my network eth0. Network-manager-kde shows that network is disconnected. If I try to set eth0 in kde-network-manager again It makes nothing. I have to set network manually and it works. But after reboot network-manager again delete my network eth0 settings. I don't understand why network-manager stopped working.
After reboot network eth0 is again down and if I write ifconfig to see where is problem I get this:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWadr 00:18:8b:d9:e3:0f
RX packets:1 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:5 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
kolizí:0 délka odchozí fronty:1000
Přijato bajtů: 64 (64.0 B) Odesláno bajtů: 1730 (1.7 KB)
Maybe it helps you to find where is problem.
And by the way: I used 8.04 on my Desktop PC and it listed a modem device which was not installed. I reported this bug and the modem device is not listed anymore. But now I use 8.10 on my Laptop and my Laptop has a modem device. But the network manager does NOT detect this device. Additionaly it shows a dsl-modem, which is also not installed in my laptop. Please fix that bug: Ubuntu shall detect a modem device, if it is there and should NOT detect one, if it is not there! The same is valid for WLAN and ethernet devices: Only list them, if they are installed!
