I got fused that the "Black Area" when installing or updating software under Ubuntu.

Here is my proposal for a better, eye pleasing interface.

I want feedback for this mock ups.

Let me know if this goes well with Gnome HIG.

This is another proposal, but in this case I doubly think that anyone would like this one: It goes against Gnome HIG. Namely it has tabs...

But I think it's more useful this way. But a lot more cluttered.

For more HIG, easy of use and more importantly effectiveness of the GUI... the left side of Synaptic should be rethought a litle bit.
