Bug Description

One of the recent kernel updates (I believe it was the Nov. 6 one) made the wireless adapter become nonfunctional and undetectable on 8.04. Updated to 8.10, problem persisted, also didn't work with 8.10 liveCD. Fixed by apt-get install linux-backports-modules-intrepid and then modprobe iwl3945 Had to add a shell script to run modprobe at startup to permanently fix.

Can you comment which kernel version in Hardy you updated from and which kernel you updated to? Additionally knowing which kernel version you are running in Intrepid would help as well? You should be able to 'cat /proc/version_signature' to find the specific version.

Additionally you mention this issue is resolved after installing linux-backports-modules-intrepid. This is likely because linux-backports-modules-intrepid has an updated version of the compat-wireless stack which is hoped to help resolve some issue users may have with the version provided in the default kernel package. So basically, if linux-backports-modules-intrepid resolves this issue you should continue to use that package. Thanks.

Ubuntu 2.6.27-7.16-generic is the version I'm running now, and 2.6.27 was the update version that broke the support in hardy, I think. The version I was running before that was whichever kernel had been officially released into the update channels immediately before 2.6.27.
