Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

After upgrading from amd64 Hardy with Octave installed to amd64 Intrepid, Octave was no longer installed. As far as I have noticed it was the only application so affected.

This is only a minor bug as Octave can easily be reinstalled (sudo apt-get install octave).

Note that "octave" is a virtual package, which in both Hardy and Intrepid is provided only by octave3.0, but in Gutsy (which this system started with) was provided by octave2.9.

octave3.0 and octave2.9 are both references by update-manager as upgrades, unused dependencies and remove_candidates. So the packages are upgraded then removed :(

This bug was reported against the octave upgrade in Ubuntu versions 7.10, 8.04, and 8.10. All of these Ubuntu releases have reached end of life and are no longer supported.

If the bug is still reproducible in a currently supported version of Ubuntu, increase the verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can try again.

Do feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
