Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

To access parts of the internet external to my workplace, I must use a proxy server. I have firefox set up with suitable settings.

I get different results when I drag an image from firefox to my desktop.

1. If the image is hosted by my workplace (which is accessed directly, without using the proxy) then it works as expected: the image is saved to my desktop.

2. If the image is hosted externally then firefox uses the proxy server to access it, and I get an error message and the image is not saved. For example, if I browse to the url http://www.google.ie/intl/en_com/images/logo_plain.png and drag this to my desktop, I get the following error message in a dialogue box:

Error while copying.
There was an error getting information about "logo_plain.png".
Show more details
HTTP Error: Cannot connect to destination

This is wrong. I expect my proxy settings to be respected, and this drag and drop operation to work as in 1.

The instructions for reproducing the bug are identical.

What I expect to happen is that if I drag an image displayed in firefox to my desktop, then it is always saved to my desktop. This does not happen if firefox can only access the image through a proxy server.

Still an issue for me as well - identical behaviour with 9.04 and Firefox 3.0.12 (though my dialogues are a bit different).

Dragging links and images from inside the proxy works perfectly. I can drag them to the desktop with no problem. Outside the proxy, If I drag an image, I get:

Error while copying.
There was an error getting information about "example.gif".
HTTP Error: Cannot resolve hostname

However I notice that if I drag a URL into the terminal, I do indeed get the proper URL on the command line. So is this a Firefox issue or an Ubuntu issue? When I watch traffic to my proxy, I see my system trying to get something when I drag a URL or image, though I can not tell what.
