Bug Description

Starting with Kubuntu 8.10, konqueror cannot connect to mozilla.com:

The requested operation could not be completed
Unknown Host
Details of the Request:
URL: http://www.mozilla.com
Protocol: http
Date and Time: Thursday 13 November 2008 20:33
Additional Information: www.mozilla.com: Unknown error
Description:
An unknown host error indicates that the server with the requested name, www.mozilla.com, could not be located on the Internet.

I can connect to other sites, however, such as kubuntu.org or launchpad.net. And note that in general the network is working fine, as well:

ralph@tomcat:~$ ping www.mozilla.com
PING www-mozilla-com.glb.mozilla.com (63.245.213.13) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from static-mozcom.nllb02.nl.mozilla.com (63.245.213.13): icmp_seq=1 ttl=243 time=41.4 ms
64 bytes from static-mozcom.nllb02.nl.mozilla.com (63.245.213.13): icmp_seq=2 ttl=243 time=42.8 ms
...

I'm on a private network 192.168.99.0/8, with my router 192.168.99.1 serving as nameserver. In my parallel installation of Kubuntu 8.04 on the same machine (using the same hardware), konqueror doesn't have these kinds of issues either.

OK, update --

The scenario above occurs when entering "www.mozilla.com" in the address bar, without the protocol specification. According to the error message, the protocol defaults to http.

Entering "http://www.mozilla.com" DOES work, however. Entering "https://www.mozilla.com" produces a similar error message as above, but explicitly stating "protocol: https".

So this is actually two bugs in one.

Good afternoon,

Working on triaging some bugs here. Are you still having problems with resolving mozilla.com thru konqueror? sre you still having problems with this? I have no problems browsing the web with Konqueror on Kubuntu 8.10.
Just wanted to follow up on this.

Jonathan

Yes, the issue persists.

I think this might be in part caused by my router, similarly to the issue for Safari on Mac OS X currently being reported (see http://www.heise.de/newsticker/Fritz-Box-bremst-Mac--/meldung/121555 for an example in German).

In this case this would make this bug a duplicate of http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=162600.
