Bug Description

Binary package hint: synergy

Synergy worked for me beautifully in Hoary, but after upgrading to Intrepid, it has a serious problem. If synergy server is running on my intrepid machine, and I move my mouse off the desktop to the next machine (a windows box running synergy client) and then I move my mouse back to the intrepid desktop, mouse clicks no longer work on the local intrepid X server. I can move the mouse pointer around, but clicking the buttons do not do anything. I can use alt-tab to switch between windows and still use the keyboard to do things. To regain use of the mouse, I have to log out (using alt-f1 and keyboard), and then log in again.

In case it matters, I've been running Compiz and Xinerama on the synergy host (Intrepid machine) and an Nvidia closed-source server. This was also the case when I ran synergy successfully in Hoary.

The mouse works properly on the synergy client machine.

Package: synergy
Version: 1.3.1-4ubuntu2

Another note: Killing synergy server does not restore use of the mouse.

I second this -- fresh Hardy -> Intrepid upgrade, synergys on the Linux host (Dell lappy), synergyc on Mac client. Mouse moves between hosts fine for a while, then stops accepting clicks on the Linux host machine. No compiz, yes nvidia closed-source driver.

I had the same problem but fixed it. Its not a fix which will end this bug, because it still needs to be fixed.

I had the exact same problem as Chris Lee. I noticed that the mouse sometimes on the host screen, changed icon, as if it was over some text but it wasn't. So I figured it thought that one of the screens actually were the other one.

Here's what I did:

I changed my visual settings, so the to screens changed place in xinerama, and I changed the cabels so screen 1 now were screen 2.

That fixed the problem for me.

Same problem here, Fresh intrepid install for server, all updates installed, no compiz, nvidia driver installed.

I've got a few different clients, but i've confirmed that it doesn't matter what the client is. When I move the mouse back to the server, all of the the mouse buttons are completely ignored as well as the scroll wheel. I'm using a microsoft intellimouse optical usb mouse.

Also, i'm using the xinerama extension, but the same thing occured when I disabled all of my screens except for the primary.

I too am having a very similar issue, however it appears to be linked to a very specific machine.

I have my Laptop, running Ubuntu 8.10, and my desktop, running Xubuntu 8.10.

Fresh apt-get install on both machines. My desktop is running NVidia TwinView with xinerama, as is my laptop.

I have an issue only with my Desktop (Xubuntu) machine.

Essentially, every time I 'take over' my desktop from my laptop, once I return the cursor back to my laptop, I must click the mouse connected to my desktop once more, or when I move the cursor from my laptop to my desktop again, I will be unable to click.

Running synergys on my laptop:

Move mouse from laptop -> desktop: Mouse moves, but Clicks (And only clicks) are ingored. In addition, the mouse I have plugged into my desktop can move the mouse, but it too is unable to click.

Move mouse from desktop -> laptop: Mouse functions fine. Right+Left clicks function as per usual.

Move mouse connected to desktop: Mouse functions fine (!?)

I can now control my laptop using my laptop mouse+keyboard, and my desktop using my desktop mouse+keyboard.

Move mouse cursor from laptop-> desktop: I can now control my desktop using my laptop.

Scratch my previous post.

My problem was actually to do with misconfigured hosts. I had set my laptop's hosts file to point to my desktop, but I had NOT set my desktops hosts file to point to my laptop.

Adding an appropriate entry into my hosts file, telling my desktop the ip address for my laptop, appears to have completely resolved this issue for me.

After upgrading from Intrepid to Jaunty I've now been able to use Ubuntu as a synergy server for several weeks now without the host mouse interaction failing (see my previous comment.)

Having also previously tried x2x and having the same mouse interaction failing issue, I'm suspecting this was never a synergy issue but rather an Xorg server issue. Regardless the bug is fixed for me in Jaunty.
