kmail fails to read GPG key list

Bug Description
Binary package hint: kmail
I'm running ubuntu 8.10 with kmail as the mail client. When I go to modify an identity, and assign it a GPG key, I get a dialogue up:
(Title:) Key Listing Failed
An error occurred while fetching the keys from the backend:
General error
and it doesn't seem to load the keys.
