Thanks for your report.

This looks like a corrupted archive. Could you please run the following commands and report if it helps:
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install --reinstall update-manager

Thanks

Thank for the reply.
I just tried this but I keep getting bzip2 integrity errors, for example, when doing "sudo apt-get update" I get this:

[...]
Obj http://archive.ubuntu.com intrepid-security Release
Des:2 http://archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages [1254kB]

bzip2: Data integrity error when decompressing.
Input file = (stdin), output file = (stdout)

It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.
You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files.

You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover
data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.

and so on...
I've tried to change the repository I'm downloading from but I get the same errors (even the "Reload" option in synaptic throws errors)
I'm starting to think it's a network card failure because my other PC (intel core duo) is working fine.

I don't think it's the network card because if I download a package (either from Firefox or with wget) from the ubuntu repositories (http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/...) and then install it with dpkg -i all goes well.
The only difference is that when I do this I save the file on my /home partition (ext3, partitioned and formatted with the i386 install CD), and my current / partition was formatted with the amd64 install CD.
Could this have anything to to with it??
Thanks in advance
