Bug Description
In Kubuntu 8.10, my resolution is was automatically set to 1280x1024. I changed it to 1152x864 by clicking the Display config under system settings, but it reverted back to 1280 after reboot.
Following advice on kubunutforums.net, I tried this from Konsole:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
...but now it just reverts to 1024x786 after each reboot, so I'm still having to go to the display panel after each time.
The odd thing is, that as soon as I enter Display, Kubuntu realizes my changes and switches to 1152 immediately. However, I still need to click on the Display settings icon to prompt this. And Kicker must be manually changed to the new screen width.
Running "Resize and Rotate" also prompts Kubuntu to switch back to 1152 immediately. Also, Kicker must be manually changed to the new screen width.
UPDATE: I upgraded to a new, larger monitor and now Kubuntu boots up to 1792x1344. According to the "Display" modes, this is the "(Auto)" setting. Behaviour is the same as above, with the displat changing to my saved preference as soon as I click on "Display" or run "Resize and Rotate".

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/ xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/ Xorg.0. log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. Thanks in advance.
