No sound output/input TEST in system setting

Kubuntu 8.10 live session from CD.
I can't test if my mic works correctly. There's no "test" in System settings / Sound.
I did test speakers trough Amarok's default sample included, which I find exactly unfortunate as the missing mic test.

I think you don't understand what the actual bug is.
My sound is working correctly (I tested it in different applications), but I'm missing a simple "test" in the system settings, so I can't test the sound directly after OS installation or after change of sound settings.
To test sounds I have to install/run different applications and search for some sound files, etc.
The KDE3.5 and many other OS do have a "test" directly in sound settings panel, so you can easily test every new setting, or check the sound right after OS installation.

In KDE 4.2 there is at least an output test.

This should be reported/tracked as a wishlist item at bugs.kde.org. Unfortunately we do not currently have the resources to implement this feature as a distribution, so we must rely on KDE for new features such as this. Thanks for reporting this wishlist item all the same.
