can't join any room in yahoo

the client won't let me join any room in Yahoo!. I have tried several accounts, and all are the same.

What error messages do you see when you try to connect?
Are you sure the network settings are correct?

You can run pidgin --debug in a terminal and try to find clues in the output, something that explains what is happening.
