Bug Description
Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop
Hi,
I have recently installed ubuntu 8.10. I had no problems running the kde desktop (4.1.2). Also gdm works fine, but after logging in to gnome (2.24.1) *sometimes* the screen goes black, flickers during some seconds (x-server trying to restart?) and then finally gives me a dialog (on a black screen) saying :
"Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode
Your screen, graphics card and input device settings could not be
detected correctly. You will need to configure these yourself."
It then gives the option to save the log and configuration files (attached).
Xorg.0.log reports
"Error in I830WaitLpRing(), timeout for 2 seconds"
then a lot of
"Ring at virtual 0xa785a000 head 0x8c74 tail 0x1c0 count 23891"
and then finally
"Fatal server error:
lockup"
The crash occurs just after the login sound, when the start panel is appearing.
Thanks,
Koen
I forgot to mention that I never have this error in low-graphics mode...
Thanks,
Koen
