Bug Description

Binary package hint: ttf-arphic-uming

I was noticing errors loading CLIM when the ttf-arphic-uming font was installed. I confirmed that removing the font allowed CLIM to be loaded, and reinstalling it caused the problem to reappear. It appears not to be a CLIM issue (aside from bad error handling), but rather a problem with this font. Running "xlsfonts -ll" causes the following error:

X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 45 (X_OpenFont)
  Value in failed request: 0x380036d
Serial number of failed request: 14568
Current serial number in output stream: 14569

Running "xlsfonts -l", however, does not cause any errors. I've attached the output from both of these commands (fonts.ll and fonts.l, respectively)

More info:
1) $ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04

2) $ apt-cache policy ttf-arphic-uming
ttf-arphic-uming:
  Installed: 0.2.20080216.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.2.20080216.1-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.2.20080216.1-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://ftp.ecc.u-tokyo.ac.jp hardy/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) I expected both CLIM to load and "xlsfonts -ll" to finish.

4) For both cases I get an error similar to the one above.

G'day,

I have also seen this problem, but is appears to be a problem with the xserver rather than the font. It is not getting triggered on other machines I have running Hardy. Can you also report which xserver is being used?

As Francis noted, it is more likely that this is a problem with xserver and not the font. Perhaps the bug could be moved/reassigned?

Here is some more info about which xserver I am running:

Hi,

it has been a while since you reported this bug.
As I cannot reproduce this bug with a more recent version of Ubuntu, I'm wondering if we can close this bug.
Can you please confirm if this still happens with the latest version of Ubuntu?

Thanks a lot.
