Bug Description

Ubuntu doesn't recognize dmraid raid controller array. Gentoo initrd support dmraid from 17 Jan 2006 as you can see from this applied patch (that could be evolved in the last cvs version of gentoo initrd):

I think that this could be simply backported also to ubuntu.

I can confirm Ubuntu does not work out-of-the-box on machines using FakeRaid because Ubuntu does not yet have dmraid in the kernel+initrd.

dmraid support in the kernel and initrd is required to be able to install and run Ubuntu on fakeRaids like the NVraid found in NForce chipsets. Inclusion in Ubuntu installation/Live CD's and the normal kernel in the apt repository would be greatly appreciated by all fakeraid users (like me).

On-board S-ATA RAID "controllers" are getting very popular these days. Especially for people dual booting with MS Windows, fakeraid support is important.

dmraid is in Universe. No kernel modification is necessary. It just needs the dm-mod and dm-mirror modules in the initrd, as well as the dmraid executable and start-up script.
