Bug Description

When I plug in my external harddrive (ext3) at Intrepid Ibex 8.10 I get this error message:

DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy
blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

After clicking away the error message, I can access to the files. Owner is 1000 then.

It is not only on an installed system, but also when running a live system. I also tested different machines, it's all the same.

When starting Kubuntu or Xubuntu 8.10, everything works fine, so it seems to be Nautilus or GNOME specific.

Earlier versions of Ubuntu mount the harddrive perfectly out of the box.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

 * Is this reproducible?
 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
 * Does using gnome-mount to mount the disk works correctly?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Okay, I tried to reproduce it and I again got that error.

Then my harddrive crashed and now it is unaccessible. Before, it worked still fine with my Hardy system.

So there are two possibilities:

a) My harddrive just had some serious issues and Intrepid has something like a detector for that ;)

b) Intrepid killed my harddrive

As long as my harddrive does not work anymore I can't test any further what's wrong. When I'm able to recover it, I'll test it again, if I'm not able to do this I'll close this report.

This happened to me when attaching a NTFS formatted drive to Intrepid. I can mount it fine using Hardy.

So it seems to be a problem that is really somehow connected with Intrepid.
I recommence to backup your files since it though may be a kind sign that you harddrive will die.
Mine is still not working yet, although I replaced the board.

Thanks. It is a hard drive that is having some issues but I am able to get the data backed up using Hardy.

I had once again a similar problem and a friend of mine got the same issue
with another harddrive. But this seems to be an issue of the Seagate
Barracuda 7200.11 that is already fixed in new models.
The files on this harddrive are not accessible any more. I will bring it to
a local data rescue company to see if there is anything still possible to
rescue.

I am having the very same issue that Ivosbul explained above. It is happening with my CD/DVD Drive.
