Bug Description

After an hardy-to-intreprid upgrade, startup fails, prompting to continue in low-graphics mode (but the ATI radeon 9200 SE graphic card still displays the correct high resolution...)

Backtrace (in Xorg.log):
0: /usr/X11R6/bin/X(xf86SigHandler+0x79) [0x80c3009]
1: [0xb80d0400]

6: /usr/X11R6/bin/X(main+0x279) [0x8071b19]
7: /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xe5) [0xb7cd4685]
8: /usr/X11R6/bin/X [0x8071101]
Saw signal 11. Server aborting.

dkms reports that fglrx is installed, although I am not requesting to use it in my new xorg.conf :
  $ dkms status
  fglrx, 8.543, 2.6.22-14-generic, i686: installed (original_module exists)
  fglrx, 8.543, 2.6.27-7-generic, i686: installed

Synaptic reports that
  - linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-generic
  - linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-21-generic
  - fglrx-kernel-source (2:8.543-0ubuntu4)
  - fglrx-modaliases (2:8.543-0ubuntu4)
  - xorg-driver-fglrx (2:8.543-0ubuntu4)
were installed.

I finally "resolved" this problem by removing all of this 5 packages.

See the fglrx/ati conflict guide at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/.
I think this may not be easily fixable.

Thank you for reporting this bug about fglrx, however the video card mentioned in this bug report is no longer supported in fglrx. ATI only supports R600 and newer chips. You'll want to focus on using the -ati driver instead for this hardware.
