Bug Description

Some DVB-T USB sticks such as the Terratec Cinergy T USB XE need the firmware af9005.fw to run. This firmware is available, but not provided with Ubuntu.

The firmware is available e.g. at this site: http://ventoso.org/luca/af9005/ . It should be part of Ubuntu. In case it is proprietary it should at least be made available via the hardware-drivers manager (jockey-kde or jockey-gtk).

I used the stick mentioned above on Kubuntu-Hardy desktop, Ubuntu-Intrepid laptop, and Ubuntu-Intrepid netbook (Acer Aspire One) successfully. Among the two firmware files available for download, the second one (http://ventoso.org/luca/af9005/af9005.fw-6.11.23.01) is preferred; it works as good or better as the first (http://ventoso.org/luca/af9005/af9005.fw) in my settings.

Thank you for your suggestion. However, the changes you are requesting aren't really a bug and require more discussion, which should be done on an appropriate mailing list or forum. http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/mailinglists might be a good start for determining which mailing list to use.

The firmware listed in the bug report should be added to the linux-firmware-nonfree package, a similar devices' firmware is included in that package - af9015.fw, so af9005.fw should also be included.

Changed in ubuntu:
status: Invalid → Confirmed
