Bug Description
Binary package hint: synaptic
Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex
Synaptic 0.62.1ubuntu10 (latest)
It's in file /usr/share/
This file uses "gksu" for authentication, so I can't use it (there is no root password by default, so I can't enter it)
This can be solved by replacing "gksu" by "gksudo" or "gksu -S"
This issue blocks usage of synaptic package manager for less experienced users.

Sorry, this is not synaptic bug.
Shell output of "gksu synaptic": (6x the same) www.gnome. org/projects/ gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Failed to execute dbus-launch to autolaunch D-Bus session)
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://
=> gksu was probably unable to read it's config file and that it should behave as sudo.
It was cause by missing "dbus-launch", after installing package "dbus-x11" it works now without problems.
Should this be a bug? (package "gksu" does not depend on "dbus") OR I just can't install "gnome-desktop", because I don't have Gnome/KDE?
