Workspace Switcher fails in Ubuntu 8.10

Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

For the installation of 8.10 i did an upgrade from 8.04 through an alternate cd for 8.10.
Well this is what happened .
I added a Workspace switcher applet to the panel and when i tried the preferences i
got the following error message
