Bug Description

After opening a file created on an other computer,
inkscape did not show some texts because the fonts are not installed on my computer.

When I open that file with gthumb it shows me black bars in the area the text should be.

It is quite difficult to delete these broken text objects,
because the only way to edit them in inkscape is with the xml-editor.

In my opineon, inkscape should show any kind of symbol that the user could delete.
(like a broken link to an image)

Ill attach my example svg-file with the screenshot of one of these bars.
The example file uses the font Ubuntu-title-fr.

Let me know if you need information from me.

Not reproduced with current Inkscape versions (0.47, 0.47+devel): if a font is missing Inkscape uses the default fallback font 'Sans' instead.

This is unrelated to the availability of fonts: the text was entered as a flowed text object but the current implementation of 'Flowed Text' in Inkscape is not compatible with other SVG viewers:

not reproduced in Inkscape 0.47 with your attached file - but a 'Flowed text' object can get invisible and unselectable if the text frame is too small to display any content of the 'Flowed Text' object (font size too big, spaces or new-lines at the beginning of the text, no text at all) - see related report bug #485269 in Inkscape: “Invisible and unselectable flow region in image” <https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/485269>

Are you referring to the text object itself or to the unavailable font?
