Bug Description

Kmail not infrequently "loses" in-progress messages after a crash or when quitting Kontact. I have finally found one way in which this can be systematically reproduced. See description posted my me in the following upstream bug report: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=159634

According to upstream this is fixed in KDE 4.4, which is deployed in Kubuntu 10.04

That's true, but the problem is hardly any better, because (perhaps because of this fix?) a bug with similar effect got introduced:
