Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

On the i386 livecd desktop version of Ubuntu 8.10, ubiquity kernel panics at 50% when detecting the hard-drives and partitions in my system just before the partition editor. Everything freezes up including the mouse and keyboard and the system is unresponsive until reboot. As such I am unable to progress in the install of this Ubuntu Version. Previous versions are working fine. I checked the CD copy, and the ISO image file and it matches the MD5 sums, so is a good disk to.
The system is a P5k Pro motherboard, Quad Core q6600 slakr, 4 gigs of ram, 3 hard drives (2 sata Raptor drives, 1 ide drive, and 1 ide cdrom drive), graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 3xxx running in vesa driver as display is not detected probally (out-of monitor range).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test a current, supported, Ubuntu version. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect 295088, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
