lo interface, is only available in gnome-network applet

Bug Description

HP NC4200, Dapper 3

There is 3 interfaces available right after install, eth0 (wifi), eth1 (wired) and lo

But in the network applet, only lo is availabe in the dialog, I have to enter eth0 or eth1 manualy to configure them.

This is not the case in Dapper Flight 5, now the interface selected to be the default during install and the local interface is available. But the interface eth0 (wired) is still not available.

Eth0 is not configured either.

I believe the network applet shows interfaces only if they are connected.

Umh, my nic works nicely when configured. The problem is that it does not show up in the applet when it is not configured. IE one cant select it to configure it.

Comment out (with #) everything but lo in /etc/network/interfaces. If I recall correctly, that's how you get the applet to take over for that stuff instead of the little thing in Settings > Administration > Networking doing it
