Blank menus

Bug Description

I'm having menu issues which seem to be related to KDE applications. Knetworkmanager, Konqueror, K3B, Amarok, Konversation are all having issues while Firefox, Xchat, Gimp and OpenOffice seem to work fine. When i click on the menus (file, edit, right click, etc...) the text flashes briefly then disappears leaving only the drop down menu and the keyboard shortcut underlines showing. Clicking on the blank space where for instance save as is, opens a save as dialog box.

If I issue the command "metacity --replace &" desktop effects become disabled and the text becomes visible again. Maybe this is a misconfigured compiz setting.

After seeing the screenshot, I also believe this is a problem with compiz. Additionally, please do not alter the triage status as it interferes with your bug being processed efficiently. To move the bug forward, please attach the files outlined here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingCompiz in the "how to file" section. They consist of ~/.xsession-errors file, /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the output of lspci -vvnn. Thanks in advance.

I have also attached an additional screenshot from a fresh install of Kubuntu Intrepid with no additional compiz effects installed.
