Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
A debug trace would be useful in this case.

Open a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal)
Type:

brasero -g >> ~/brasero.log

Hit Enter.
Then brasero should open up, reproduce your bug. And then close brasero.
Go into your home folder and find the brasero.log file. Upload it as an attachment to this bug report.

see... now we all learned something today! thanks for the detailed instructions they were very helpful. so i did protect the innocent a little on the music names but this gist is the same. i also read through the report and... well lets hope someone with closer eye knows what their looking at. also wanted to note that the same file plays just fine in rhythembox, but will not play with movie player.

going to throw something out there... gstreamer?

Thanks again, but this happens on adding the mp3 to burn or trying to play the file? Please try to obtain a backtrace http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and attach the file to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem.

Well I can't be certain this is the same problem but I have similar symptoms browsing a large tree of flac files.

The latest crash (running with the -g switch from the CLI to catch the debug output) appears to show it falling over on a shell script in one of my folders :

This appears to be repeatable - ie open a new audio project, then navigate to the top level of a tree which contains both music files and some other items (in my case some scripts).

Will attempt to capture a stack-trace, but here is the debug output for now :

Ok, so here is some more info - I installed the brasero debug symbols according to :

http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash

Then I ran the program under gdb until it crashed with the following message :

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
[Switching to Thread 0xb4cafb90 (LWP 9904)]
0xb733f4fb in g_slice_alloc () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0

Then I took a backtrace - result attached :

I'm getting a similar problem, only I can reproduce mine every single time in four steps: open Brasero, click the button to open an audio project, navigate to my MP3 folder, double click on a song = screen goes dark and brasero stops responding. I have to then force quit.

I noticed that this will happen every single time if I click on an MP3 file other than the one at the top of the list first. If I click on the one at the top first, it'll add it to the burn list and let me play if I want and then I can stop it and click on some other ones and sometimes even finish a whole CD without it freezing, but sometimes it will freeze before I can finish a whole disc. However, if I navigate to my MP3 folder and click on any file other than the one at the top, it freezes every single time.

I'm using Ubuntu Studio 8.10 with Brasero 0.8.2.

Same here: launch brasero, select new audio project, start browsing for the appropriate folder, crash. I'm attaching the log.
