Bug Description

Reproduce:

1. go to connection editor and create new wired connection
2. in IPv4Settings tab, select "Manual" and add one address line
3. use a netmask in the "Prefix" column (e.g. 255.255.255.0)
4. close connection wizard, open again
5. see that netmask is now in prefix format (e.g. 24)

Verify:
1. go to connection editor and create new wired connection
2. in IPv4Settings tab, select "Manual" and add one address line
3. check that middle column reads "Netmask" now
4. insert a netmask in the "Netmask" column (e.g. 255.255.255.0)
5. reopen connection wizard and check that its still in Netmask format
6. insert a prefix in the "Netmask" column (e.g. 24)
5. reopen connection wizard and check that it was converted to Netmask format.

When i try to set a static ip in Network Manager (Intrepid Ibex) is impossible to save the setting of the netmask.

I type 255.255.255.0 and press ok but, after that, when i go to verify the result i see that the netmask is chaged to "24". and of course it doesn't work.

I upload a video on youtube to explain better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqjxK6qm2ww

I upgraded to Intrepid today with the update manager and my wireless network settings were inherited from the previous Hardy installation;

Now, from the output of "ifconfig wlan0" I see the netmask is 255.255.255.0 (see the attached text file)

Still, in the Network Manager it shows it to be 24 !! (see the attached screenshot)

thats a feature. its not netmask, but prefix. there might be a better applet handling. please file that bug on your own in bugzilla.gnome.org where these kind of wishlist bugs are best discussed.

I don't know if I want it changed or not.

The "prefix" tab heading says "maschera" that is the Italian for "mask".

So it should say "prefix" at least, so people expecting the dear old netmask could google it and find out

could you please file a bug for that in bugzilla.gnome.org against NetworkManager and give us your bug id?

sorry. can you just provide the translation in text form please?

cato (catonano) wrote :

I'm not sure what you mean with "text form".

I already wrote it, it should be "prefisso" instead of "Maschera" in the tab heading.

Isn't this text form ?
