gnus package does not work with emacs-snapshot

After upgrading to Intrepid gnus stoped working properly. I can start gnus, but it gets a lot of errors like:

"gnus-all-windows-visible-p: Invalid buffer type: if"

Upgrading to the ppa emacs-snapshot does not solve the problem.

Removing all .elc files in /usr/share/emacs-snapshot/site-lisp/gnus/ solves the problem (but as expected gnus gets a bit slow). This is why I filed this on emacs and not gnus.

emacs-snapshot ships a rather recent copy of gnus internally.

please try to remove the gnus package and use the internal copy of
gnus. does this solve the problem?

in that case I'd think emacs-snapshot should declare a Breaks relationship against gnus.

No. If the Gnus version shipped in the gnus package doesn't work
with Emacs 23 then it should be fixed (but I haven't had any reports
of this problem before, so it's perhaps a local issue on the
reporter's machine). It's an old development version (No Gnus v0.5),
so maybe it just needs to be updated to a newer release.

How about adding a versioned Breaks field?

FWIW I have had problems with the byte code from magit (http://zagadka.vm.bytemark.co.uk/magit/). I'll be happy to test anything that might help decide if it's my machine or not.
