Bug Description

LIVE Dapper CD has the same problem with the screen resolution as Breezy has. I can't switch from 1600x1200 to anything else without a hard freeze.
A change from 1600x1200 to "anything" causes a freeze and the Apply button is downpressed but not clickable. And the "keep the new resolution" has moved towards five o'clock, not in the center of the screen any more.

My videocard is AIW 8500 DV.

I am having similar problems changing screen resolution also on Ubuntu Dapper Flight 4 live CD. On my HP ze4325 laptop w/ATI Radeon 320M graphics, the default install sets the resolution correctly to 1024x768. If I try to change it to 800x600, the resolution is changed but the screen is then locked. The 'Keep Resolution' dialog box does not appear as it did in Breezy. I can't click on any controls and can't even ctrl-alt-bksp so I have to use the power switch.

I also tried this on a desktop system with onboard Geforce 6100 graphics, in that case changing the resolution caused X to restart.

I am experiencing the same thing with Dapper (installed from Flight 4, but kept uptodate) on an IBM Thinkpad T42. I will attach my xorg.conf and a log file from the freeze. Here is what I did to produce the freeze:

- Boot computer
- Start 'gnome-display-properties'
- Select the resolutoin '1024x768'
- Press apply

The resolution changes, but the panel does not adapt (the panel at the top doesn't show the icons on the right, and the panel at the bottom is not visible anymore at att). I can still move the mouse, however the "Apply" button is still pressed. Mouseclicks or keyboard presses change nothing. Not even CTRL-ALT-DEL or CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE. I have to shut down the computer by keeping the power button pressed until the computer turns off.

Problem seems to disappear if I disbale both the "dri" and "glx" modules in the xorg config file.

I have the same problem too with Live CD flight 5 : hard freeze when i attempt to change resolution from 1920x1200. Video Card is ATI 9600, Athlon 2500+ (Barton) on nForce 2 MB from Abit.

My second PC had the same problem. Video Card is Voodoo3, Celeron 500mhz.

I didn't have this problem with the latest version Breezy (5.10).

PS : sorry for the "copy" but my english is bad.

This issue is fully resolved on my system with Flight 6, Live or Installed versions. Works fine now. Thanks to whoever fixed it!

Dapper did work after I installed the fglrx drivers with a howto from
ubuntuforums. The later/final versions of Dapper worked out of box.

Edgy works out of box.

I can't reproduce this anymore.
