usability: dvd playback does not start automatically

I am using totem gstreamer with Hardy (8.04.1).

DVD playback is working, but there are some usability problems, which can be easily fixed. It took me some time to figure out (I'm an experienced Linux user), so I am sure others will face the same confusion.

The Problem:
After the DVD is inserted, it's properly mounted and totem starts. It shows the first item in the menu and does not load the other items. One has to manually do Movie -> Play Disc to load the DVD menu.

I also noticed that the option [ Movie --> Play Disc ] stays only for a finite time after the disc is inserted.

Hmmm.. I also face the same problem with Totem.

Do you have gstreamer-plugins-bad installed? DVD playback is undergoing important changes in Intrepid and Jaunty because of the new resindvd plugin for GStreamer. See bug 260765 about that. If this is related, we can close this bug to be clearer (one task for one problem is better).
