Hi Alexander,
It occurs in a clean install of ubuntu 8.10, I have not modified anything.
I understand it's the expected behaviour to open a doc file (using OOo).

I know that I'm relatively new in launchpad but the ubuntu wiki says:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Checklist
Incomplete bug
    * Was additional information provided?
o Yes - confirm and set priority based on scope of impact
o No - wait 4 weeks and invalidate if no response, tag needs-devrelease-testing if someone else might be able to reproduce it (hardware)

Since you had asked me a question and I have answered it, I consider it right to set status to confirmed again (because it had been confirmed again, (you did it)).
So please explain to me your last menacing comment. I don't get it. Thanks.

isnt the same:

* Did you provide the requested information?

So thats what the triager is supposed to do not the reporter.

After our discussion in IRC, it seems to me that you have forgotten it because you signed/read it some years ago.
Then, I'm waiting for your next question.

Yes, thats all ok :) ... my workflow relies on not being distracted
because status changes, but in fact i already gave up on confirmed state
being something meaningful.

So now that i looked that the bug, its reproducible and should be
forwarded. I will see if i see something obvious in trunk code.

so seems firefox uses gnome_url_show for "open" (already downloaded), in contrast to the nsIMIMEService/nsIMimeInfo facilities for the "open with ..." for active download.

The former seems to be broken for OOO documents. A fix should unify the code paths and make both use the same backend somehow.
