Bug Description

When launching PlaneShift in fullscreen mode there is about a 75% chance that it will just give a white screen that can not be exited, demanding a system re-boot. I don't have this trouble when running in windowed mode, however.

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 with an nvidia graphics card.

Hi there,

I am using a nvidia geforce 8400m GS with the non-free drivers...
I cannot reproduce the problem.

Can you please report what nvidia card you are using - lspci | grep VGA
and the driver - grep modules/drivers /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Hello

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 with a Nvidia 6600 graphic card.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600] (rev a2)

I am using: 'NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 177) [Recommended]

And I can sadly reproduce/confirm the error.

When I launch the game in window mode, it works perfectly - but when I use full screen mode, I get a white screen, and I am forced to reboot/restart the x-window.

I don't have the same problem with other games, just planeshift - and I would be grateful if anyone could fix this issue.

I have already located the culprit - when I deactivated Compiz (the desktop effects), the error vanished.

TEMP FIX: Deactivate compiz

So I guess the error is with compiz, not the game?

I hope someone can solve this - It would be nice to have both up and running at the same time. (So I am not forced to deactivate Compiz every time I want to play the game, and then activate it again afterwards.)

If you need anything, then let me know.

Is this still a problem with Ubuntu 9.04? It sounds like a driver issue so the newer nvidia driver in that release may help.
