Binary package hint: update-manager

I was directed here automatically by your script. I was performing an upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 and ended up here. I don't know anything else other than that.

Possibly. I don't recall, exactly. PIL is in site-packages for both
/usr/lib/python2.4 and /usr/lib/python2.5 but I can't remember at this
stage how I got it there.
