lcd screen does not power off

Bug Description

In 8.10 on my HP Mini-note, the laptop screen no longer powers off, despite the power settings that request this. The screen dims, but is still on. This used to work on 8.04.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Does this problem exist on Jaunty (9.04)?

If so, could you please attach the resulting log file of:

 /usr/share/gnome-power-manager/gnome-power-bugreport &> gpm.log

to the report? You might also want to take a look to the Debugging instructions located at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingGNOMEPowerManager for submit any other logs related to your problem.Thanks in advance.

I am using 10.04LTS. It is better than before, but still sometimes does not dim the screen when I think it should.
