Bug Description

Running ibex 64bit on an inspiron 1525 w/ all updates after a clean install:
After resuming from suspend, the touchpad settings seem to get reset.
1) The sensitivity goes way down to a point that seems equal with the lowest setting.
2) The setting to turn on mouse clicks with the touchpad gets turned back on (despite me have it set to off).

These are the only settings I have noticed getting changed, but it's possible others could be as well.
IN ALL CASES the settings in the mouse configuration tool look as I set them (the sensitivity slider is in the right place, the mouse clicking with the touchpad box is unchecked), but the touchpad is not responding in a way that refects the settings I have set.

If I change each reset option in the mouse settings tool after the resume, all works as normal, but this is really annoying to have to do after EVERY resume (as I rarely power off my laptop). I'm guessing it has to do with xorg, but I don't know where.
I'll post log files. Resume @ about nov 2 15:41.

I've got somewhat the same problem on my Dell D820. When I resume from a suspend, my mouse acceleration is reset to default (although it still shows my custom setting in the configuration screen). Furthermore, the 'vertical setting' is enabled again although I disabled it in the configuration screen (which worked before the suspend). The configuration screen still shows 'vertical scrolling' as being disabled, but it is definitely enabled.

Hi liener-meat,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` too.

Similar problem with a HP dv2610us notebook, with synaptics touchpad. The touchpad sensitivity seems to go to a higher setting after wake-up from suspend. This doesn't happen after hibernation
I noticed that the touchpad sensitivity is also higher before I login, at the login screen. I haven't been able to find any solution yet.

I have the same problem. Additional related behaviour: occasionally my cursor will freeze for a second or two and then start working again. When this happens my settings are also reset. This seems to happen reliably when I reconnect to a wireless network (not the first connection- must be a disconnect then connect). My wireless chip is an Intel 4965 AGN. Perhaps this is related.

I have the same here with Kubuntu Intrepid i386 on a Dell Latitude E6500. Restarting X / KDM helps with the problem, but this is still rather annoying.

Interesting that it occurs in KDE too. Perhaps this should go upstream to X.org and they can clue us in on what might be happening.

The reset to low touchpad sensitivity occurs in Kubuntu Jaunty AMD64 on Macbook2,1 whenever X is restarted. Is there a console command that can be added to a startup script?

Sorry, I meant a console command to edit touchpad settings.

Okay, I used synclient to check on the touchpad settings. While the touchpad was in its insensitive state, FingerHigh had a value of 80. This was the value in /etc/hal/fdi/policy/touchpad.fdi, though I don't remember ever changing it. Changing this to a value of around 15 made the touchpad sensitive again.

Unfortunately, changing the value in touchpad.fdi and restarting X had no effect; the FingerHigh reverted to 80, though touchpad.fdi remained unaltered.

For now, I've added "synclient FingerHigh=15" to my KDE autostart script.

Hi lien_meat,

This bug was reported against an earlier version of Ubuntu, can you
test if it still occurs on Lucid?

Please note we also provide technical support for older versions of
Ubuntu, but not in the bug tracker. Instead, to raise the issue through
normal support channels, please see:

    http://www.ubuntu.com/support

If you are the original reporter and can still reproduce the issue on
Lucid, please run the following command to refresh the report:

  apport-collect 292861

If you are not the original reporter, please file a new bug report, so
we can work with you as the original reporter instead (you can reference
bug 292861 in your report if you think it may be related):

  ubuntu-bug xorg

If by chance you can no longer reproduce the issue on Lucid or if you
feel it is no longer relevant, please mark the bug report 'Fix Released'
or 'Invalid' as appropriate, at the following URL:

Hello Bryce,

I'm not the original bug-reporter, but I suffered similar problems (explained in comment #6). I just did some tests with Lucid Lynx (64bit) on the same machine and as far as I can tell, this issue is fixed. After a resume, all settings seem to be the same as when I entered the suspend.

@piotrsirko - thanks for providing that info, but we would like to see it from the original reporter. We may want to send this bug report upstream, but upstream has a hard and fast rule that logs from someone other than the original reporter are not acceptable. The reason for that is that quite often with X.org bug reports, two people may *think* they have the same issue based on commonality of symptoms and/or hardware, but in truth they have separate issues and mixing the report and the files can cause the developers some confusion.

If this bug report seems not to be getting attention, I would encourage you to file a new bug report with this data, and simply reference this bug report in your bug description.

Hello Bryce,

I unfortunately don't have the machine that exhibited the symptom anymore so I can't regress the fix. Someone else with an inspiron 1525 could try this out.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu version (10.10). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #>, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
