Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

When on full screen, the movie played by totem flickers! Also... the subtitle is desynchronized with the movie/sound, i.e. there is a delay between what was said in the movie and what line from subtitle is displayed.

Totem was always shitty! I was never able to play a single movie with a subtitle in Ubuntu's shitty totem! Why do I always have to search through a lot of forums to find a solution? Is Ubuntu some problems collection?

I always use in W*ndows mplayer and it's MPUI Gui and i never had a single problem! Why, on Earh, a Linux, open source app works so damn good in that shitty Wind*ws?

Is that hard to remove this horrible media player or just to make it just work???? Is that so hard to make that shitty subtitle load by default, without that user google-ing to find how on Earth could a subtitle be loaded????????

I can't offer you a screenshot or so!

Dear Developers!

I googled for flickering gstreamer, and found this bug.
The simptoms are similar, 8.10, amd64, ati driver and gstreamer.
Other suggested that replacing the video output driver from default (xv->x11 or anything) should help.
They were right, all players (Árpi's mplayer, xine) with this setting altered could play the movie without flickering.

My question is: Where can I alter totem's options, or gstreamer's to do not use 'xv' ?

Thanks, UDS

easy fix:
>run gstreamer-properties
>click on video
>under plugin select X Window System (no Xv)

then restart totem.

I know that this isn't a bug discussion anymore, but I wanted to know, what actually caused the flickering? With me the flickering always came up, UNLESS I had fullscreen on without any of the controls.

The fix worked though, but I'm wondering what I actually fixed.
