Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

I use Buffalo Linkstation as Samba server. I can use SMB connection with Ubuntu 8.04.
Yesterday, I updated Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10. Accordingly, Gnome and Nautilus were updated.
In the representations,
smb://< server name >/< sharing point >/< directories >,
server name and sharing point appear in left pane of Nautilus with unmount button. Also, on desktop, the icon of < server name >@< sharing point > appears. However, the right pane of Nautilus, no contents will appear including file name nor directory name.
I guess one thing about the version of Samba server. The version of Samba of said Linkstation is fairly old. Is there any missing of compatibility to old version of Samba according to upgrade of Gnome and Nautilus?
Another point I found is the status of ~/.gvfs. Without no connection, the status is,

euda@thinkpad:~$ ls -laF | grep vfs
dr-x------ 2 euda euda 0 2008-11-02 17:12 .gvfs/

Once try to connect Samba server, the status is,

$ ls -laF ~/
(snip)
d????????? ? ? ? ? ? .gvfs/
(snip)
$ cd ~/.gvfs
bash: cd: /home/euda/.gvfs: Transport endpoint is not connected

is this any reason of this failure?

thanks.

Gnome: version 2.24.1, Nautilus: version 2.24.1.

Using smbclient, it seems to be correctly working like below,

-----
euda@thinkpad:~$ smbclient //fileserver/share -U guest
Enter guest's password:
Domain=[UDA] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.2.8a-ja-1.1]

euda@thinkpad:~$ gvfs-mount smb://fileserver/share

(On Desktop and in left pane of Nautilus, icon "share@fileserver" appears.)

euda@thinkpad:~$ gvfs-ls smb://fileserver/share

(No response was found in terminal nor Nautilus)

Is it thought that this failure comes from previous version of Samba?

thanks.

reassigning to gvfs, to debug by somebody having the issue, if smbclient works correctly the issue is not likely a samba one

I installed Robert's patched libsmbclient included in bug #282298 and I can now see all my files and folders on my buffalo linkstation (250 MB) using nautilus. I had the same issue as euda in that I could no longer see files and directories on my linkstation.

Thanks to Robert.

I also applied this patch in bug <a href="https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/282298/comments/32">#282298</a>. It works out nicely.
I am looking for fixed gvfs component from Ubuntu official repository.

This is no longer an issue for me, using jaunty with today's updates applied, connecting to a 250 MB buffalo linkstation (samba 2.2.8a-ja-1.1).

Thanks

closing the bug since the comments state that works correctly on jaunty, you can open a new bug if you still have an issue after upgrading
