You can't upgrade the kernel from a live cd. I'm closing this report
because it is not a bug.

Thanks.

Please re-read the bug report. This was NOT a live CD. It was an install
on to a USB memory stick that failed when updating.

I think I know that you can't update a CD-ROM.

Please re-read the text of the error report. This was NOT a boot from a live CD. It was booted from a USB Memory stick that was itself created from a Live CD boot.

I think that I know you can't update a CD-ROM.

However, the error that you can't update a USB Memory stick must be considered to be important and critical. Interestingly, the USB Memory stick is now nolonger bootable at all and will have to be rebuilt.

I'm reopening this report due to your last comment regarding this is a memory stick and not a CD. I've grouped similar issues on bug 292159. Any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in the other report.

Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find.

Thank you. I am trying to replicate this from an install using alternate
CD without success. I will repeat with Live CD later this week and report.

Interestingly, the USB Memory stick was rendered useless as a boot
device following this.
